Knowledge and Experience

Sherry Smith

Specialized Loan Officer

We’re introducing you to Farm Credit Midsouth Specialized Loan Processor Sherry Smith, a member of the Farm Credit team for nearly 20 years.

Sherry’s professional story begins when she attended a community college then transferred to Arkansas State University before starting her career in manufacturing and sales. She made the move to Farm Credit Midsouth, accepting a job as a customer service representative and learning the ropes under longtime employees Lenda Cupp, Linda Kahl and Keith Holifield in the Paragould office. She is thankful for that time spent working together on a small team, building relationships with farmers, and getting them what they needed.

Sherry was promoted to her current role as a Specialized Loan Processor in 2018. Technology enabled electronic processing, which streamlined the process opening the door for processing to be centralized so the branches could focus on customer service. Sherry’s office remains in Paragould, in Farm Credit Midsouth’s year-old location, which she loves. The proximity to the Paragould branch offers her the opportunity to maintain the relationships she’s cultivated over the years.

If you are sensing a pattern of longevity among FCM employees, you’re right. It seems to be a common trait around these parts. We asked Sherry, as we do all of our spotlighted employees, for her thoughts on this. Sherry believes it’s simple. What the Farm Credit team is doing for farmers matters. It matters to them and it matters to the agriculture industry in the Midsouth. Of course, not to be overlooked she notes, are the positives of working for the Association including strong benefits and close relationships with her co-workers. In short, she says, it never feels like it is “just a job.”

Sherry, a Jonesboro native, resides in Walcott, where she moved after marrying husband George, Jr. The couple shares three children, Nick, 26, George III, 17, and Miranda, 13. The family shares a love of basketball—Sherry played the sport and now enjoys watching George and Miranda do the same. They’re also huge college basketball fans, with a pretty fierce North Carolina/Duke rivalry splitting their home. The family loves to camp and travel, especially to favorite destination the Smoky Mountains where you might just find Sherry post-retirement. The Smiths are members of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
